For the first time since its inception in 1988, the Asian Pacific Cleft Lip and Palate/Craniofacial Congress will be held in Malaysia this coming April 2015. First conceived and convened by Professor ST Lee in Singapore twenty-seven years ago, the Congress has travelled through Taiwan, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, India and Australia to make its 8th destination in Penang, Malaysia.
The Congress venue is located in George Town, a UNESCO-listed World Cultural Heritage Site, filled with living history that spans over two centuries with fusions of the East and the West manifest in the architecture, food and cultural practices. As a result of its heritage, many parts of George Town have clung on to traditions while other parts have welcomed modernity, giving rise to a charming melting pot of old and new. It is therefore only appropriate that the 8th APCLPC Congress aims to provide a scientific forum along similar lines – reflect on our heritage and also embrace new developments in the profession and practice of caring for individuals with cleft lip, palate and craniofacial deformities.
We live in uncertain and challenging times, but what remains certain is that scientific exchange has always been cherished by our community; and unifying at the same time, even in the arena of scientific debate and controversy. Despite advanced internet connectivity, nothing can replace physical presence at these lectures and discussions. Hence, we urge you to come to this Congress not only to share your experiences but also to be inspired, stimulated and enriched.
Apart from all that, let us invite you and your families to also enjoy all the attractions of Penang, the splendour of the congress venue, and finally, the exquisite food that Penang is famous for.
See you soon.
